The application process timeline

Each application deadline flows into a particular conference and subsequent orientation. Click here to jump to the timeline matrix.

Please allow time for the following events to occur after the deadline:

After the deadline: All applications are received, processed and read prior to our file review. Consultants will generally be unavailable during this time in order to devote significant time and attention to read and clarify application materials.

File review is generally five weeks after the published deadline: File review is a time for the ISC/Journeyman Team to get together to discuss all the applications received. It is the meeting where we decide to whom we will extend an invitation to the interview conference and thus continue in the application process. Invitations will be mailed a few days after the file review (see below - invitations mailed out).

Interview conference preparation: The five weeks prior to an interview conference is spent making arrangements for upwards of 100 missionary applicants to participate in the event (travel, lodging assignments, small groups, group leaders, meals, etc.)

A general timing note about submitting your Application Part Two:

If you submit Part Two of the application near an interview conference date (see below), additional time may be needed to respond since the consultants are working very closely with applicants prior, during and after the current interview conference.

If you submit your Part Two the week prior to a published deadline, chances are that you will not make the deadline to submit the full application (we must review your preliminary materials prior to moving into the full application stage, then you must complete a thoughtful application). So, you will then be considered for the next interview conference.

If you submit your Part Two between the published deadline and when invitations to interview conference are mailed out, consultants are reading applications of those who submitted their full application by the published deadline, so we will get to your preliminary materials as soon as possible.

You choose which conference to attend based upon your desired departure to the field, which is normally within two weeks after orientation.

Which orientation? At conference, your date of orientation attendance is agreed upon in consultation with the missionary (taking into account your schedule) and the desires of the regional office (when they want you on the field). Most people choose the next available orientation, while others may delay until a later orientation.

Actual dates of the conference? Participants arrive on Tuesday, in time for the start of the conference at 5:00 PM. Travel time from the airport to ILC will be taken into account when planning flight itineraries. In order to secure significant airline discounts, participants may stay in Richmond until Sunday morning; however, most participants travel on Saturday. The dates below do not reflect this layover.
