Perfect timing in Western South America

By Mark Kelly

A young missionary who works with the Ashéninka people who live in the jungles of Peru traveled to a small town, seeking witness and ministry opportunities. After checking in at a hotel, he wearily dropped into a hammock to relax and read his Bible. A man in a nearby hammock struck up a conversation in Spanish, and the young missionary was shocked to learn that the man was Ashéninka. Since most Ashéninka don't speak Spanish, the missionary asked the man where he lived and was shocked a second time to learn the man is a cook in a Peruvian restaurant in the USA and was vacationing in Peru. The young worker began sharing chronological Bible stories he had been learning in Spanish, and after a couple of hours the Holy Spirit softened the man's heart and he accepted Christ. "We know God's timing is perfect, but sometimes we don't realize how often God is at work around us as we go through our daily life," the young missionary said. "God placed me in the right place, at the right time, so an Ashéninka man living in New Jersey could receive forgiveness and eternal life. God has perfect timing!"
