The Application Process

Work with Candidate Consultant

What’s a Candidate Consultant?

Once we receive your completed Information Form, you will be assigned a Candidate Consultant based on your geographic region. Nine consultants and their assistants are primarily responsible for the enlistment, nurture, evaluation, and selection of missionaries. Your consultant will help guide you to complete all paperwork, determine any additional educational requirements, and assist you in discovering where God wants you to serve. To see which Candidate Consultant you’d be working with click on the button below.

Listed below is a description of the forms to be completed for the application process. If married, both husband and wife need to complete each form.

Information Form Part II
This form asks questions related to health, finances and other obligations that might affect when, where and how you might be able to serve.

Comprehensive Health Questionnaire
This is a questionnaire about your health history that will allow us to get an early health baseline. It is reviewed by the Medical Department and kept confidential. Preliminary Health Clearance must be given before submitting in-depth materials. If you have dependant children, we will need a Health Questionnaire completed for each one.

Dental Health Questionnaire
This form allows us to establish current dental health and must be submitted to the Medical Department no later than the Candidate Conference. You must ask your dentist to complete this form.

Children’s Testing
We evaluate children’s acedemic performance to confirm they are functioning on grade level. Questionnaires are required for children age three and older. Forms are completed by the child’s school or home-schooling parent. A signed permission form to release information is also required.

Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI-2)
This is a testing instrument, which indicates emotional health and well being. It is reviewed by PCT staff and sometimes seen by a psychiatrist. The results assist us in developing questions for the in-depth interview, and are kept completely confidential. It must be returned and scored prior to the in-depth interview.

After Preliminary Health Clearance

Once preliminary health clearance is obtained,we will send you instructions for the written portion of the application. You will be asked to provide:

  • Life Sketch: A two page document that is widely disseminated and used by many IMB offices. It includes factual, biographical and public information.

  • Confidential Autobiography: This is a very detailed eight to ten page document dealing with personal issues of growth and development. It is treated sensitively with very limited sharing, and is reviewed by PCT staff and perhaps a psychiatrist. Physical, mental, emotional, social and spiritual issues are considered. This document is shredded after appointment.

  • Statement of Christian Beliefs (CBs): This is your opportunity to present your personal beliefs about core faith issues, the Baptist Faith and Message and recent witnessing experiences. It is reviewed by PCT staff and shared with the trustees.

  • References: You will be asked to list twelve people who know you well and would be willing to complete a reference questionnaire. You will also be asked to provide five references for dependent children ages 3 and above.

  • In-depth Interview: Once you've submitted all of these materials to the Candidate Consultant, he will contact you to schedule an in-depth interview. The consultant will come to your area to conduct the interview, which lasts two to three hours.

  • Reserve a Specific Missions Assignment: Candidates are sent job requests from around the world that match personal interests, experience and education. When you reach a decision that God is leading you to a specific job your consultant can ask that the job be reserved in your name.
