Congratulations! You have just accepted an assignment that can change lives forever for the glory of God.

Thank you for your willingness to be on mission with God in leading a volunteer team overseas. Our Lord spoke to the apostle Paul regarding his mission as recorded in Acts 26:17b-18 (NIV) saying, “I am sending you there to open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.” Our prayer is that this Scripture will be fulfilled once again in your volunteer mission project.

As you prepare for this most important mission, let us share some information that will be helpful to you.

INSURANCE—International Mission Board policy requires all volunteers involved in an IMB volunteer project to purchase insurance for their protection. The insurance offered by Adams & Associates International, official carrier for the IMB, provides medical, accidental death, medical evacuation, disability and many other benefits. The volunteer or sponsor is responsible for the cost of this coverage. Information on this insurance and an enrollment form can be found on the Web site of Adams & Associates International at www.aaintl.com. Please visit this site to acquire your insurance.

TRAVEL—Volunteers are responsible for making their own travel arrangements. You are free to use any travel agency that you find helpful. You may want to contact a travel agent experienced in working with volunteers from the International Mission Board. To receive information on travel agents that have served our volunteers well, please call us. You can also check with a local agent of your choice. It is often helpful to check with more than one to compare prices and services. Make sure that you inquire about visa requirements for entry into your country of service. Some countries require visas, while for others, only a valid passport is needed. Once you have made your travel arrangements please send us your itinerary using the electronic form available.

IMMUNIZATIONS—Please check at “Immunizations” for those recommended for your country of service. You can also contact your local health department for further information on inoculations. Remember to always consult with your personal physician before you take any inoculation.

TRAINING FOR THE TEAM LEADER — Team Leader Training by Danny Sinquefield is an excellent resource for those who will lead international mission teams. This 10-session study provides all of the tools a layperson needs to organize, train, and lead a team of volunteers on an international mission trip. Contents include qualities of a good team leader, team-member selection, training the team for effectiveness, spiritual preparation, health and safety, church planting, communicating, crisis management, and more.
