International World Changers—Brazil

The following is an excerpt from a report from a missionary family in Brazil about a World Changers project. This comes from an MK who helped with the project.

On the four and a half days of active ministry we went out with them to a location near a reservation of the Guarani Indians. Since the Brazilian government allows only a select few onto the reservation the mission team's objective was to indirectly target them. We did this through building a chapel/clinic and conducting Backyard Bible Clubs with the children on a piece of land about 300 yards from the edge of the reservation.

Personally, it was a great week for me because I had the opportunity to be part of a group of youth and adults totally sold-out to God, people with of a single mind towards selfless ministry. It was awesome to be able to worship Him throughout the day and especially at the evening worship services. God spoke to me in various ways throughout the week. I was reminded of what an active and sovereign Lord he is. I realized that my sole responsibility is to totally trust and depend on Him, like a child. I have to be willing to give Him control of everything-my college plans, my ambitions, my all-because He is truly worth it. I should be willing to be guided along into the center of His will because-as I've found out in our many moves and years on the mission field-that is and always will be the best place to be.

Additionally, this week was good for me in that I was able to see the life example of one of the men on the mission team. His example reminded me that it is possible for one to live a successful life in a “secular” career in the U.S. and yet be sold-out to God, have a very active and significant ministry in a church and, most importantly for me at least, throughout the world. This was good for me because as I look toward college and beyond it is hard for me to think about leaving Brazil and, perhaps, having a “normal” career in the United States. I just thought that had to be unbearably boring and no fun. Well, this man on the team showed me a life that I can admire and see myself fitting into.

By the end of the week we finished the chapel/clinic up to about the tops of the windows. The Backyard Bible Club ministered to probably about 70 children through Bible stories, songs and crafts. I believe the Guarani Indians and Brazilians were able to see something different in that team as a result of the way they worked and related to each other.
