Walk the streets of India. Meet the people who live in darkness, smell the incense they burn to powerless gods, hear their hopeless chants and prayers, witness their dependence on stars and numbers to decide their futures. And pray as you have never prayed before, that God will reveal Himself to the people of India, that their hearts will be opened, and that they will give their lives to the one true God.

Volunteers should be aware of the heat situation and honestly consider whether they can handle the expected temperatures.
Factors that could influence the volunteer's ability to do
this job
India is pleasant from Nov-Feb, hot Aug-Oct and really hot Mar-May. The hotel and some restaurants will be air conditioned, transportation and many buildings will not be. Walking will be required, but it will not be strenuous. Diet will be primarily vegetarian. Safe food and drinking water is readily available. Malaria does occur but is not common these months. Mosquito repellant for night time use is recommended.
Recommended immunizations are Hepatitis A and B, typhoid.
Health care facilities available
Excellent fully equipped clinics as well as very nice and inexpensive hospital and medical care. Specialists in every major field. One of the cities attractions is medical tourism. Most medicines are available.
Travel, Location and Culture
Geographic Settings
Ahmedabad is located in the farthest western state of India - Gujarat. Ahmedabad is 80% Hindu and 19.5% muslim with all other religions accounting for .5%. It is dry most the year with monsoons July-August. It is the 7th largest city in India with 6+ million people. There are several malls already in existence and several new ones being built.
Other (customs, clothing, shopping, etc.)
People dress conservatively here. Bare shoulders and short dresses are not considered to be appropriate for ladies. Clothes can be acquired here at a very reasonable price. There is no touching of opposite sex in public. One would want to become familiar with other cultural norms. As far as eating out, there are excellent Indian food restaurants as well as western restaurants- Pizza Hut, Dominoes, Subway, McDonalds and even a Baskin Robbins. Local Indian meals are usually $3 or less.
